Vámonos, a cafe and community hub in Southwest Detroit, was born from Denisse López's vision to provide a space for families to gather, stay active, and eat healthy. After noticing a lack of healthy food options near Clark Park following Zúmba classes, Denisse wanted to create a welcoming environment that combined fitness, wellness, and nutritious food. Together with Carlos, they embarked on this journey, starting with Michigan Squeeze Station before moving forward with Vámonos in 2023. ProsperUs Detroit played a pivotal role in the opening of Vámonos by providing a matching business loan through the Motor City Match program and offering ongoing support.
Vámonos is more than just a business—it's a family project, with Denisse’s mother playing an essential role in its foundation and continued growth. The Lopez family, along with local volunteers, has built Vámonos into a community-driven space that nurtures health and wellness while fostering strong neighborhood ties. Denisse's Latinx roots are central to her mission, as she was inspired by businesses like Café con Leche, which made her feel seen and supported as a Latina. Through Vámonos, she honors that legacy, creating a space for families to thrive together in a supportive, mission-driven environment.
