WHO WE ARE
The mission of the Detroit CDFI Coalition is to promote community development, stimulate growth, promote local employment, and revitalize strong and healthy neighborhoods that are good places to live, work, shop, and play.
WHO WE SUPPORT
The Detroit CDFI Coalition’s vision is Detroit as a place in which all people and communities have access to the
investment capital and financial services they need to prosper.
The Detroit CDFI Coalition brings together community development financial institutions and stakeholders
to drive equitable growth across Detroit.
WHO WE ARE
By promoting community development, stimulating economic growth, and championing neighborhood revitalization, the Detroit CDFI Coalition drives initiatives that create strong and healthy neighborhoods—places where people can live, work, shop, and thrive. The Coalition’s collaborative efforts amplify the voices of its members, aligning collective resources to support Detroit’s diverse ecosystem and advance prosperity.

OUR HISTORY
The Detroit CDFI Coalition launched in 2014 with a core group of CDFIs working in the city of Detroit. CDFI lender, LISC Detroit, helped lead efforts to launch the Coalition and continues to be a key member today.
Since 2014, the Coalition has grown to over 30 members including certified CDFI and Partner members. Today, the Coalition has attained status as a nonprofit corporation in Michigan and meets regularly to discuss relevant investment opportunities, policy issues, and strategic partnerships to advance development in Detroit neighborhoods and commercial corridors. Members have collectively invested more than $1.8B in Detroit neighborhoods.

COMMITTEES
The Detroit CDFI Coalition’s committees serve as the backbone of our collaborative efforts, driving focused initiatives and advancing strategic priorities. Committee members provide expertise, insight, and passion to ensure that the Coalition remains a leader in promoting access to capital and fostering meaningful impact across Detroit’s ecosystem.
By addressing key areas such as policy advocacy, neighborhood revitalization, small business support, and organizational governance, the committees collectively empower the Coalition to achieve its mission and create sustainable change in the communities it serves. Climate Committee
The Climate Committee advances equitable climate finance strategies within Detroit’s CDFI ecosystem by supporting Coalition members in developing and implementing impactful climate lending and investment approaches that strengthen communities and expand access to opportunity. The Committee fosters intentional partnerships and collaboration with community and statewide partners, provides information and resources, and facilitates peer learning to strengthen collective efforts and build long-term capacity for climate finance engagement.
Public Policy Committee
The Public Policy Committee identifies and develops annual policy priorities, implements an advocacy strategy to advance the policy agenda—including building relationships with elected officials—and creates necessary advocacy materials. The Committee ensures broad consensus among members that issues are representative of the Coalition and in alignment with its goals.
Neighborhoods Committee
The Neighborhoods Committee builds relationships with community leaders and business owners to identify investment gaps, share information about existing financial tools and products, and explore opportunities to develop new ones. The Committee also works to amplify the community’s narrative and collectively determines focus areas where Detroit CDFIs’ products can be most effectively layered or complemented, increasing the deployment of capital and resources to underserved areas.
Governance and Membership Committee
The Governance and Membership Committee advises the Coalition on operational strategies, including recommending amendments to the organization’s bylaws to strengthen its structure and empower the Board to fulfill its governance obligations while upholding the organization’s mission. The Committee also oversees Coalition membership throughout the year, provides membership reports, and facilitates the onboarding of new members.
