Joyell Lewis is the owner of Joyola Mei Salon, a unique space dedicated to curly, wavy, textured, and coily hair. Passionate about sustainability, Joy offers eco-friendly products that are also gender-neutral, making her salon both inclusive and green. Her journey began with ProsperUs Detroit and Michigan Women Forward, who provided her with a loan, opening doors for further opportunities such as a Motor City Match grant.
With these resources, Joy began to grow her business, hosting education courses for other stylists and raising awareness for recycling in the Corktown neighborhood. Joy’s ultimate goal is to purchase a space, stop renting, and continue to expand her team, establishing a lasting legacy in the community.
